New Jumparoo

Brianna is now the proud owner of the Precious Planet Jumparoo! I know, I know ... she didn't really need it but she's almost too tall for her exersaucer now and I needed something to put her in for playtime. As much as she loves to kick and jump, I thought she'd enjoy this. So far, she seems to really like it. Thank goodness, for my own sanity, it has an off button for the music. Of course, I had to shoot some video of her first reactions to it so here you go...

Its been awhile but ...

We've been really busy lately so forgive us for not getting any pictures posted the last two weeks. Its back to school season for Justin and combined with this weekend being tax-free weekend, he's been putting in a lot of hours at the store. I've been swamped at work with projects and fire drills so there just hasn't been a lot of down time around our house. In the middle of all this, we've had a new patio built in our backyard. We've wanted it done for a few years now but other things always seemed to be more urgent. This year though, I insisted and neither of us regret it. Here's a few before and after pictures for you ... I know everyone wants me to get to the pictures of Brianna so just hold on, they're coming.

We still need to lay some new sod but that will get done in the next few days. I think its pretty obvious from Brianna's face that she's happy about it. Now that we have a nice place that's shaded throughout the day, we can go outside more often, which makes her and Moab very happy.

Let's see, what else have we been up to. Justin and I took Bree to the play area in our neighborhood for the first time last week. I was disappointed that there wasn't a swing but we still got some cute pictures of her going down the slide, with help from daddy of course.

Brianna's gotten quite good at sitting up on her own now too. She has little desire to lay on her back or tummy and play now. So, I broke out the pack-n-play so that she'd have a safe place to sit with her toys while I do whatever it is that needs doing. She seems to really like it and whenever Moab walks by, she giggles at him through the mesh. She's only toppled over twice in the 3 days that I've had it set up and when she does, she just tries to sit back up and since she can't do that yet, she looks at me with this look that says "well, sit me up mommy so I can keep playing". It's really pretty cute to see her trying so hard to sit back up and not understanding why her body won't do what she wants it to yet.

I guess that's about it for pictures. I've been so busy playing with her since I've got to be gone overnight again this coming week that I haven't pulled out the camera as often as I normally do. Some weeks, that's just how it is I guess...

Love you all,
Lucretia

Cute Video!

Here's a quick video of Brianna giggling! She loves to bounce, whether in a bouncy seat, our laps or just on the floor. She's pretty much sitting up on her own now, at least, when she's able to sit still she can sit up on her own. Its only when she's bouncing and wiggling that she hasn't figured out how to stay upright yet!

Quick Post and Pictures

The weekend has not been long enough for me so this will be quick so I can get back to playing with Brianna. I've got to go to New Jersey this week and then Minneapolis next week so I'm trying to get as much loving in as I can before heading out of town!

She loves to be outside and watch Moab and I play in the backyard. Here's a picture of her laughing at us being silly. Moab's also become her protector and whenever she's lying on the floor, he's right there beside her. He also likes to sit in front of her when she's in her bouncer and they will stare at each other. I swear they're having a silent conversation! Here's just a few more from this weekend. She's sitting up in her high chair now and knows that it means she's going to get fed. She added sweet potatoes to her diet this weekend but so far, I think either squash or carrots would be her favorites. She and I play with the hand puppet dragon on her exersaucer and of course, all she wants is to put it in her mouth!

Hope you liked the pictures ... time to go love on my baby!

6 Month Well Check

We survived our 6 month well check today! Here's the highlights ...
  • Weight: 16 pounds (50th percentile)
  • Length: 27 1/4 inches (95th percentile)
  • Head: 14 1/2 inches (50th percentile)

As for how she's doing developmentally, we checked off all the boxes. She's sitting up slightly supported, rolling from back to tummy, and bearing weight on her legs. Her hand / eye coordination is still very good and she's almost to the point of checking off a few of the 9 month objectives. Unfortunately, Dr. Karen informed us that she's now too long for her infant carrier car seat and suggested we go ahead and invest in a convertible car seat that's larger. She's still well under the weight limit for her infant carrier but with her height, she said its really not a good idea to keep her in it much longer. So, I made a trip to Babies R Us this afternoon and we're now the proud owners of a Britax Boulavard convertible seat. Thank goodness for those 15% off coupons but those things still aren't cheap. Thankfully, this one should work until she's old enough / big enough for a booster seat and normal seat belt.

To steal an idea from a fellow blogger, here's a quick list of all that's she's up to these days ...

  • She's wearing a size 2 diaper and has almost outgrown all her 3-6 month clothing, except the dresses. Thankfully, those can be worn for at least another month.
  • Her eyes have changed to more gray than blue and are framed by the longest eye lashes I've ever seen on a baby. They've got such a nice curl to them too .. she'll never need to try to use a lash curler if they stay this way!
  • She's still breastfed (Yeah mommy!!). Here's hoping we make it through teething and all the way to a year.
  • She's branched out in her culinary tastes to rice cereal, oatmeal, squash and as of today, peas.
  • She wakes up at 5:30am almost every morning, talks to herself for 15 minutes and goes back to sleep till about 7:00. On work mornings though, she gets up around 6:00 and wakes up so happy. I'm always greeted with a smile when I walk in her room.
  • She's fascinated by both Moab and Cleo, our puppy and cat. Every time she sees them, she gigles, laughes out loud and tries to play peek-a-boo with them.
  • She's learning a handfull of Baby Signs. To date, Justin and I are regularly using Mommy, Daddy, kitty, puppy, eat, more and all gone. She's not making them back to us yet, but she definately looks from us to the kitty or puppy when we make their signs so I feel like she's starting to get it. She's definately catching on to the sign for eat!
  • She's started to flirt with almost everyone she sees. She loves to hide her face, then peek around or over our shoulder and giggle.
  • She loves bath time and kicks so much that I swear 1/4 of the water ends up out of the tub by the time we're done. Thank goodness she's sitting in her bath tub and its sitting in the regular bath tub. Even with that, we somehow still end up with water all over the floor.

I'm sure I could list several more things but that's all I can think of right now. I can't believe that's she's 6 months old already. Every day I thank God for my little angel baby! She's always happy ... even my dad commented on how she's a happier baby than my sister or I were at her age.

Love you all ...

Yummy Squash!

We've officially graduated from just rice cereal and oatmeal to baby food now. Justin picked out her first veggies and we started with squash on Thursday night. She seemed to like it but the first few bites produced the funniest faces! It seemed she was saying "what's this", "I think I like it", and "that tastes weird" all at once. But, she's done well and even ate a whole container of squash at daycare on Friday. Of course, we took pictures of the whole event and here's a few of them. She also has quickly figured out that she doesn't want to hold the spoon any longer ... she wants the bowl the food is in. Why go for the small stuff when you could grab the whole thing?

Hmm...What's this Mommy?
OHH ... Daddy has the camera!
Messy Girl!
She and Justin have been having a lot of fun playing together and thankfully, I was able to snap a couple pictures. Here they are this morning playing catch. She loves to stand up on his lap and let him catch her. Of course, he never really has his hands off her but she doesn't know that. She already seems to like doing things on her own. I wonder where she gets that independent spirit from? I seem to recall a lot of stories from my mom about me being the same way.

She seemed fascinated by Justin's hat so he decided to see what she'd do if we put it on her. At first, it was simply too big to do anything with.
But then, she figured out how to give it a little push so that her sweet face showed underneath. That's also when she realized Mommy had the camera out so of course, she had to pose for me. You'd think we take a lot of pictures of her or something the way she recognizes what a camera is ... no idea where she gets that idea!

She's also discovered some of her stuffed animals in her nursery. The Build-a-Bear my parents made for her and the Lambchop my Aunt Jo gave her both sit on her nightstand next to the rocker. I noticed one evening that she was staring at Lambchop so I put her in her crib with it to see what she would do. She loved it! She was hugging it, lifting it over her head and of course, trying to put it in her mouth. Her Build-a-Bear is still a little too big for her to play with. She can't quit pick it up or squeeze it but she will before too long. Justin and I still want to build her a boxer from Build-a-Bear but we've been waiting till she was old enough to play with it. I think its time to have a family outing. And last but not least, one of her many cute outfits! She looks adorable in her little leggings and t-shirt! She had a yellow bow in her hair at one point but it didn't want to stay put. Her 6-month well check is Monday so we'll get to see how long she's gotten and how much she weighs. I can't believe my baby girl is already 6 months old. I'm sure every mom feels this way but I think she's simply amazing. I call her my little slice of Heaven and I can't believe that we've been so blessed. I love every moment with her!
Love you all,
Lucretia
